Rental Business: The SRB Definition

There is a multitude of opportunities for side businesses, but I am a strong believer in the product rental model because I have had great success with it myself. Even within the rental market there is a wide variety of business opportunities.

Smart Rental Business focuses largely on product rental, including everything from tables and tents to wood chippers, mountain bikes, and record players. Real estate, such as house rental or vacation home rental, is beyond the scope of what I cover here.

I love product rental because anybody can start a product rental business using items that they probably already own, which are often sitting dormant in the garage.

This type of business model can be run on evenings and weekends outside of a regular full-time job. This is how I earned extra money for college while attending school and working internships full time.

The SRB Business Model

I am an advocate of starting with the minimum viable business and growing by testing and creating more value for customers. The basic steps in the blueprint for a side rental business include:

• Choosing a product
• Determining your prices
• Setting up a way for customers to contact you
• Testing the market
• Building a website
• Building an email list
• Marketing
• Collaborating with other companies
• Growing the business as large as you would like.

You might want a side business that brings in a couple hundred dollars every month, or you might want to grow your side business into a full time job. Either way this blueprint will get you there.
